Writer: Access ComplianceAccess Compliance

"National Work Zone Awareness Week (NWZAW) is a yearly event dedicated to spreading the ever-important awareness of roadway work zone safety. Thanks to support and involvement from organizations and individuals like you, the message of safety continues to grow each year. Regardless of your physical location, there are a variety of ways to participate in each individual event so find out how you can help.

April 21: Work Zone Safety Training Day

In a roadway work zone, safety is a critical aspect of every workday. This national stand down encourages employers to pause during the day and participate in safety demonstrations, training in hazard recognition and fall prevention and focus on other vital prevention steps to maximize worker, motorist and pedestrian safety in work zones.

April 22: National kickoff event

The 2025 NWZAW kickoff event is on Tuesday, April 22, and is hosted by the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT). You can easily join the kickoff festivities by holding your own NWZAW kickoff event! As you host and participate in kickoff events, follow and tag #NWZAW on social media to spread the word.

April 23: Go Orange Day

On Wednesday, April 23, roadway safety and traffic industry workers across America are encouraged to wear orange to proudly share their support for work zone safety. Post your #GoOrange photos on social media with #NWZAW and #Orange4Safety to show your support of the roadway safety industry and the families of victims who’ve lost lives in work zones.

April 24: Social media storm

On the fourth day of National Work Zone Awareness Week, companies, organizations and individuals are encouraged to take to social media and share important messages of roadway safety advocacy between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. ET. Tag your pictures, posts and stories with #NWZAW and #WorkZoneSafety to join the conversation and show your support.

April 25: Moment of Silence

In just 2022, there were an estimated 96,000 total work zone crashes with nearly 900 work zone fatalities. On the final day of NWZAW, participants are asked to share a moment and remember those who have lost their lives in a work zone incident. https://workzonesafety.org/work-zone-data/
