"Preventive measures for protecting workers from exposure to the newly discovered Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) depend on the type of work performed and knowledge of exposure risk, including potential for contamination of the work environment.
MERS-CoV is a coronavirus and highly susceptible to inactivation by many commonly used disinfectants. Currently, OSHA recommends following SARS disinfection practices for environmental areas contaminated with MERS-CoV.
Adaptation of infection control strategies based on a thorough hazard assessment is necessary for implementing infection prevention and control measures, including engineering and administrative controls, safe work practices, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
